Manchester United youth training director: I don’t want youth training players to enter the first team just as a symbol and not to play.

Manchester United's new academy director Stephen Torpe hopes to avoid the situation of leaving young players on the bench as a "symbolic gesture" to continue the club's proud record dating back to 1937.
Manchester United coach Amorim has stated that he will not break the club's 88-year tradition of including a player from its youth training in the squad for every game. England U19 midfielder Jack Fletcher was placed on the bench against Tottenham earlier this month as Menu was sidelined with a minor injury.
With Menu's future still unclear, people are worried that young players will be placed on the bench without any actual opportunity to play. In an interview, Torpe expressed his desire to avoid such a situation. "We don't want players to be in the first team just to continue a tradition and become a symbolic gesture," Torpe said. "We want players who are well prepared, can make a difference, make our team better, and make our fans proud. There's nothing more exciting than seeing a homegrown player take the field."
