British media: Wilson and West Ham United reach a deal on transfer, he is about to become the latter s third contract

According to talksport, Wilson has reached an agreement with West Ham on a transfer, and he is about to become the latter's third signing this summer.

33-year-old Wilson, who has not found a club since leaving Newcastle at the end of last season, spent five years at St James' Park and attracted interest from the Saudi league.

Leeds United are also interested in the England international, but West Ham is currently in the lead in the competition. Wilson's agent Will Salshouse is close to David Sullivan and he made a transfer request to the West Ham boss.

West Ham is believed to have offered Wilson a contract with a low base salary, with goals and appearance bonuses. The offer is similar to Newcastle’s previous “pay-by-performance” contract, but Wilson rejected Newcastle’s proposal and chose to be free.

Wilson will be West Ham's third signing after midfielder Diouf and Peters this summer. Porter's team also welcomes the permanent joining of French defender Todibo, who played here on loan last season.

Newcastle spent £20 million to sign Wilson from Bournemouth in 2020, and he contributed 49 goals and 11 assists to Newcastle in 130 games. Wilson was a key member of the team's League Cup win last season, ending the club's 70-year trophy drought. Although he was selected for Southgate's England national team, injuries plagued his Newcastle career.

His last season was particularly difficult, with only 20 appearances and scoring one goal. On the show list before Newcastle’s penultimate home game against Chelsea, Wilson called the season “his worst season.” "As a collective, it's one of the best seasons I've experienced with one of the best teams, but for me personally, it's my worst season."

Wilson has been the team's first striker before Isaac joined Newcastle in 2022. But Isaac's outstanding performance at Newcastle reduced Wilson's playing time and he became the Swedes' substitute.

Wilson recently served as a commentator in DAZN's Club World Cup coverage after leaving Newcastle, where he shared his knowledge and experience as an expert with Mikel and Khedira, while former Newcastle goalkeeper Jivin is also a member of the team. Former Manchester United stars Kleberson and Vieri also participated in the four-week match, and Chelsea eventually won the championship.
