Key points for feeding breastfeeding dogs, pay attention to these things
After 60 days of hard work, the female dog finally gave birth to a healthy baby successfully. So how do we take good care of heroic dog mothers? For breastfeeding female dogs, they should choose refined, fine and easy to digest foods, and it is best to choose foods with good lactation effect.
1. In the first 6 hours after the female dog gave birth, no feed is generally given. Just put a basin of cleaning water next to the childbirth. In the next few days, nutritious liquid or semi-liquid food should be given, such as making milk powder into eggs, making rice in broth, soy milk powder, etc.
2. After giving birth, you should also "eat less and eat more": feed it a few more times, and the amount should be small each time, so as to facilitate the recovery of the internal organ functions of the female dog. The feed in the future should not only meet the requirements of the female dog itself, but also ensure the needs of milk production. Therefore, the amount of feed should be gradually increased to increase nutrition.
3. After the female dog's physical weakness period has passed, in addition to ensuring the nutritional needs of the mother, the need for milk production should also be considered. In the first week of breastfeeding, the feed can increase by 50% compared to usual, 100% in the second week, and by the third week, it will increase by 2 to 3 times, and it should be gradually reduced in the future.
4. The number of feeding of breastfeeding dogs is generally no less than 3 to 4 times a day. Feed should not be changed suddenly to avoid digestive disorders.
5. Generally speaking, except for one meal each day in the morning and afternoon, at least one meal should be fed in the middle. In terms of nutritional ingredients, in addition to appropriately adding concentrated feed and vegetables, you should also feed some meat, broth or supplements. It is necessary to check the breastfeeding status of female dogs frequently. Some female dogs, especially those who have primary births, do not have enough milk. They can use milk powder to feed the female dogs to increase milk production.
Finally, in addition to supplying according to dietary standards, fresh lean meat, eggs, milk, chickens, vegetables, cod liver oil, phosphorus, calcium, bone meal, etc. should be added to the female dog as appropriate; at the same time, clean drinking water should be provided regularly every day.
